Limerick Mental Health Week

What is Limerick Mental Health Week?

Limerick Mental Health Week promotes positive mental health in the community. This is achieved through a series of public talks, exhibitions, workshops and events. By organising this week, we aim to raise awareness of mental health in the local community. The week will provide a forum to generate discussion and promote positive mental health. It will also reduce stigma and help to bring mental health into everyday conversations. Finally, Limerick Mental Health Week highlights the range of supports and services, which are available within the local community.

When is Limerick Mental Health Week?

World Mental Health Day takes place on October 10th, 2019.  This year the theme is “Suicide Prevention.” We will be working to promote the supports available and spreading awareness of what you can do to help yourself and those in the community. We run a range of informative, thought-provoking and fun events surrounding World Mental Health Day. These will be run across the city from Friday October 4th to Friday October 11th, 2019.

History of Limerick Mental Health Week

LMHA established Mental Health Week in 2005. In 2006, it was extended to include mental health associations throughout the Mid-West Region. The mental health associations provide the key programmes and framework for the week. We do this by working in partnership with second and third level educational bodies, community, voluntary and statutory services. By working with these groups, we can assess and meet the needs of people throughout the community, from all walks of life.

Limerick Mental Health Week has been going from strength to strength over the past decade in the city. It was developed and supported by Limerick Mental Health Association. This is thanks to the network of organisations involved. These include HSE Mid West Suicide Prevention Office, GROW, Samaritans, Mental Health Ireland, Men’s Shed Association, Le ChéileMy Mind, Family Resource Centres, ICHAS, Loss and Grief Group (LIT), Gender Orientation Sexual Health HIV (GOSHH), Blue Box Creative Arts, Limerick Youth Service,Northstar Family Support Project, Headway, Enable Ireland, Paul PartnershipAn Garda Siochana, Mary Immaculate College, Employability, University of Limerick, and SMRC Urban Run.
