Limerick Mental Health Week is back for 2020, with a very different approach this year. 

Join us this October 10th – 16th as we connect with the people of Limerick, and promote the incredible local support services available.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2020 is “Mental Health for All – Greater Investment – Greater Access.” We will be working to promote the supports available and spreading awareness of what you can do to help yourself and those in the community.

Launch of Limerick Mental Health Week 2020 on Zoom (Invited Guests Only)

Date: Friday 9th October

Limerick Mental Health Week will kick off on Friday 9th October on Zoom due to increased Covid-19 restrictions. The launch will feature a welcome from The Mayor of Limerick followed by some words from the Chair of Limerick Mental Health Association, Dr. Lisa O’Rourke Scott and the official launch of week by Claire Flynn Manager of Limerick Mental Health Association.

Street Art by EMIC & Jonathan Noonan

Date: Murals will be unveiled on Saturday 10th October

Renowned street artists EMIC and Jonathan Noonan will create 2 very special murals in secret locations around Limerick City to be unveiled during LMHW. The murals are commissioned by Limerick Mental Health Association and celebrate the local heroes in Limerick, and the surrounding areas, who stepped up and helped their community and neighbours during lockdown.

What Makes you Smile? Photography Competition

Building Your Own Personal Resilience (Over 18s)

Date: Monday 12th October
Location: Online Workshop
Time: 6-8pm

Building Your Own Personal Resilience In Times of Uncertainty with Counsellors and psychotherapists Ann Bracken and John Hickey. This workshop will provide you with insight into recognising when your thinking and behaviours are not supporting you to face challenging circumstances.

Ann Bracken will show you how to work with the therapeutic approaches of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to integrate more Acceptance with Mindfulness approaches and also increased Resilience by recognising what is in and outside of your control. This helps the individual to take action when needed and to let go of those things outside of your control. Finally, she will show you how to use Cognitive Defusion techniques to release problematic thinking styles that usually contribute to increased stress and low mood.

Hosted by ICHAS (Irish College of Humanities & Applied Sciences). Speakers: Ann Bracken (MA, Grad.Dip. PG Dip.) is an Online Counselling Psychotherapist, Yoga Teacher, Lecturer and Author. John Hickey (M.Sc in Clinical Supervision (TCD); P.Grad in Guidance & Counselling; B.Sc (Hons) Psychology), Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Senior Lecturer at ICHAS.

Hosted by JIGSAW Limerick, this 1-hour online workshop is for any adult who is or can be ‘One Good Adult’ in the life of a young person.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the workshop participants will:
– Have a greater understanding of mental health and what influences our mental health.
– Recognise the importance of the role of One Good Adult in supporting and promoting young people’s mental health.
– Know how to support and promote the mental health of the young people in their lives.

Lunchtime Socially Distanced Yoga with Kathryn Crowley

Self Care & Chair Yoga

Flow With GraceDescription: “Yoga for all Bodies” with “Flow with Grace“. Come and experience the transformative power of yoga, from the comfort of your home. You will feel nicely relaxed and de-stressed after joining this relaxing, all levels accessible chair yoga class. During this half hour class we will explore our breathing, stretch out our bodies and experience a guided meditation. This class is suitable for all bodies.
