Limerick Mental Health Week 2024 Recap

This October, Limerick came together in an incredible way to promote positive mental health and celebrate Mental Health Week 2024. Running from October 6th to October 13th, this year’s Mental Health Week saw an impressive 62 events hosted by 22 organisations across Limerick city and county, we witnessed our community come together through music, dance, talks, and workshops—both online and in person—and open days, all with the shared goal of promoting mental health and well-being. Our theme, “Community, Connection and Compassion rang true as we reached well over 2,000 participants throughout the week of events.

Highlights of the Week

We were delighted to present an exceptional lineup of events during Mental Health Week, offering meaningful opportunities for everyone to engage with mental health personally and positively. Here are a few key highlights:

  • Annual Choral Event
Held on Friday, October 11th, at St. John’s Cathedral, this inspiring evening featured multiple choirs and musicians under the direction of Dr. Malcolm Greene and the Limerick Choral Union.
  • Final Performance of Movement for Your Mind
On Sunday, October 13th, Dance Limerick Studios at St. John’s Square hosted the culminating performance of this unique initiative—a collaboration between Dance Limerick and LMHA. Movement for Your Mind promotes positive mental health through dance, offering an innovative approach that has gained national recognition.

Each day was a testament to the incredible community spirit in Limerick. With the help of our talented volunteers and supportive partners, we reached more people than ever, spreading the message that mental health is something we all share responsibility for.

Heartfelt Thanks

We owe the success of Mental Health Week to every volunteer, sponsor, venue, and performer who made these events possible. The dedication and compassion shown by those who donated their time, talents, and resources have left a lasting impact on all who attended. A special thank you goes out to the local venues that generously opened their doors and hosted our events. With your support, our reach was more extensive and meaningful.

Our community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are deeply grateful to all those who joined us this year, sharing their voices, stories, and experiences. Through every art class, yoga session, discussion panel, and group activity, we built connections that will continue to strengthen the community fabric of Limerick.
