Today, October 10th, we mark World Mental Health Day, a day of global awareness and local action. At Limerick Mental Health Association, we are proud to stand alongside communities around the world in recognising that mental health is not a luxury, it is a universal human right.
Why This Matters in Limerick
Here in Limerick, we know that mental health challenges don’t discriminate. They affect individuals, families, and communities, from students under pressure to parents juggling responsibilities, to older adults facing loneliness. Regardless of age, gender, nationality, or background, everyone deserves access to quality mental health care, support, and understanding. That’s why we work year-round to support, educate, and empower people across the city and county.
On World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- Advocate for better access to mental health services
- Create safe spaces where people can speak openly
- Educate the public to reduce stigma
- Promote recovery and resilience
What We’re Doing
To mark the day, Limerick Mental Health Association is hosting a number of local initiatives and events throughout the week. These include:
- Workshops and Talks focusing on mental health awareness and coping strategies
- Community Walks and Wellbeing Activities to encourage connection and self-care
- Open Days at Our Centre, welcoming anyone who wants to learn more or get involved
We invite everyone in Limerick to take a moment today, whether it’s checking in on a friend, attending a talk, or simply pausing to reflect, and take one small step for mental health.
How You Can Help
- Start a Conversation: Ask someone how they’re really doing.
- Share Resources: Spread awareness on social media or in your community.
- Volunteer or Donate: Help us continue our work locally.
- Take Care of Yourself: Your mental health matters too.
Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
Mental health is not just something we talk about once a year. Let’s continue to build a Limerick where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported, not just today, but every day.
From all of us at Limerick Mental Health Association, thank you for being part of this vital movement. Together, we can make mental health a priority for all.
