Volunteers play a vital and active role in all of our activities. Volunteering with Limerick Mental Health Association can be a very worthwhile and rewarding opportunity. Volunteering makes a real difference in promoting positive mental health in the community.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone 18 years old or over can volunteer.
Please commit to giving at least two hours a week to the project. Note that you may need to commit to some Sundays and attendance to meetings or training as required.
What will I be doing as a volunteer?
Volunteers support the Le Chéile project activities.
All of the activities and training will enhance well-being and promote recovery.
They will also assist with events such as fundraising and Mental Health Week and may work on our various committees.
Volunteers encourage our members to explore new interests and activities, develop new skills, unlock creative talents and develop social and communication skills, through active participation in the programme.
Overview of volunteer role
Volunteers are timetabled to cover sessions, the duration of which is two to three hours and some Sunday shifts are also required.
They can choose to join and participate on our sub-committees.
Volunteers are also encouraged to organise fundraising events of the LMHA.
Tasks
- Attend sessions, as scheduled on the volunteer timetable.
- Support active participation of all members attending the sessions.
- Participate in all activities of the session e.g. art, games, social interaction.
- Ensure that all members adhere to the code of behaviour.
- Remain professional at all times – consideration of personal boundaries is vital.
- Promote positive mental health.
- Ensure a safe, friendly environment.
Skills, experience and qualities required
- Professional and friendly manner.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Good IT skills – communication by email, text and Facebook.
- Ability to relate to a diverse range of people.
- Keen eye for capturing people’s strengths and talents.
- Commitment to the ethos of volunteering and promoting positive mental health.
Training and induction
- The volunteer will receive an induction to the organisation and the volunteer role.
- The volunteer will receive instructions from the manager on an on-going basis.
Support and supervision
- The staff member on duty will be the direct support for volunteers.
- The volunteer will receive ongoing support from the Project Manager.
- Manager is available upon request by phone or email.

Expectations
- The volunteer conducts him/herself in a professional manner.
- The volunteer is respectful towards all stakeholders.
- The volunteer will not speak on behalf of the project or Limerick Mental Health Association without prior approval from the manager/board of directors.
- Be punctual and reliable.
- Adequate notice if unable to carry out volunteering duties.
- Minimum commitment of six months.
- Adequate notice of ceasing volunteering with the project.
- Garda vetting may also be requested.
