Limerick Mental Health Week 2024 - Oct 7th to Oct 16th

We are thrilled to announce our Programme of Events for this year’s Limerick Mental Health Week, our flagship annual week which aims to promote positive mental health across the community of Limerick City and County through free public events, talks, exhibitions, and workshops. Our goal is to have a Limerick where people who experience mental health difficulties can recover, achieve mental well-being and reach their full potential within an informed and supportive community. #LMHW2024

We have an incredible lineup of over 54 events planned, all centred around this year’s theme: Community, Connection, and Compassion. This year’s theme reflects our belief that mental health is deeply intertwined with our sense of belonging and ability to connect with others. The events we have curated for Mental Health Week are designed to foster these connections and to promote a culture of compassion within our community.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store:

  • Online and In-Person Talks: Engage with experts and peers on a variety of mental health topics. These talks will cover everything from understanding anxiety and depression to strategies for building resilience in challenging times.

  • Workshops on Mental Health and Resilience: These interactive sessions are designed to equip you with practical tools and techniques to manage your mental health effectively.

  • Wellness Events: Join us for a range of activities focused on self-care, mindfulness, and physical well-being. These events are perfect for anyone looking to explore new ways to nurture their mental health.

  • Community and Social Events: These gatherings allow the ability to connect with others in a supportive environment. Whether you’re attending a coffee morning or a community picnic, these events are all about building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging.

#LMHW2024 Highlight Events:

Movement for Your Mind: A Unique Initiative

We are particularly excited to highlight our Movement for Your Mind events, which are specifically aimed at supporting migrants who may be struggling with their mental health. We’ve planned nine of these unique events across Limerick City and County, culminating in three special performances in East Limerick (Friars Gate Theatre Kilmallock), West Limerick (Newcastlewest Community Center) and Limerick City (Daghda Dance Studio).

These events are being held in partnership with Dance Limerick, The Community Foundation Ireland, and ourselves. Dance has proven to be a powerful medium for expressing emotions and improving mental well-being and according to a recent article in the Irish Examiner, we are the only organisation in Ireland using dance movements to support positive mental health. This innovative program has already shown tremendous success, and we are proud to bring it to our community.

Choral Event at St. John’s Cathedral – A Highlight of Mental Health Week

We are delighted for the return of a very special event: A Choral Evening at St. John’s Cathedral on Friday, October 11th, at 19:30. One of our most popular Mental Health Week events for many years this promises to be a truly uplifting experience, bringing together some of Limerick’s finest voices in support of a cause that touches us all.

The Limerick Choral Union, under the expert supervision of the renowned Malcolm Green, has once again shown incredible generosity by organising this magnificent fundraiser for Limerick Mental Health Association. Malcolm has devoted his time and talent to ensuring this event is a success year after year, and we are deeply grateful for his continued support.

The evening will feature performances from a range of local choirs, each offering their time and talent to promote mental health awareness in our community. The power of music to heal, inspire, and connect us is well-documented, and this choral event will be a beautiful demonstration of those qualities in action.
