An Garda Síochána and Limerick Mental Health Week 2017

Who are we?

Every day members of An Garda Síochána play critical roles interacting, rescuing and supporting people with mental health related issues across Ireland. Many of its members risk their own lives bringing vulnerable people back to a place of safety. Working with partner agencies, both State and voluntary, we are committed in assisting vulnerable persons getting the care and support they need to live full and sustaining lives.

Importance of Limerick Mental Health Week

An Garda Síochána Limerick is very proud to be part of Limericks Mental Health Week. According to Chief Superintendent David Sheahan

“It enables us to enhance our cooperation and support to  service users, families, carers and the range of other disciplines such as General Practitioners, social service departments, housing agencies and voluntary organisations. Along with the other emergency services, we have a particular relevance and part to play in dealing with crisis mental health situations. In doing so, we  must also support our own personnel who repeatedly encounter these situations by providing the best supports and services available. Mental Health is for everyone. We all have a responsibility both to ourselves and those around us.”
