Limerick Volunteer Centre and Limerick Mental Health Week

Who are we?

Limerick Volunteer Centre is a one-stop-shop for volunteering in Limerick!

We help to match individuals who want to volunteer with local non-profit organisations who need the help of volunteers.  We provide a free placement service for volunteers and organisations, a national database of volunteering opportunities and advice and training to organisations on issues related to Volunteer Management, Garda Vetting and Governance.

Volunteering is a fantastic way of improving your mental health!  Research has shown that volunteering increases feelings of confidence and self-esteem.  It gives volunteers a sense of achievement and purpose, it helps people feel more connected to their communities and it reduces loneliness and isolation.   Volunteering is also proven to reduce levels of depression and stress. Here in Limerick Volunteer Centre, we see volunteering as a wonderful way of connecting with your community, meeting new people and making a difference all while improving your own well-being.  It’s a win win!

Supporting Limerick Mental Health Week

This October, we are delighted to support Limerick Mental Health Week 2016.  This week is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness about mental health at a national and community level and to inform and educate people about mental health recovery and wellbeing.

Mental Health Week is also a welcome opportunity to thank all those dedicated individuals who volunteer in support of mental health in Ireland.   Thousands of volunteers across the country provide vital support for those with mental illness through counselling, befriending, fundraising, support groups, social clubs, helplines and many more.    We are all privileged to have these people in our communities who endeavour to make Limerick a healthier and happier place!
